About Wood
Why are FSC-certified Wood Products Eco-friendly?
When it is FSC certified – up to the standards set by the Forest Stewardship Council non-profit organization – you can rest assured that wood has been harvested from forests that are responsibly managed, socially beneficial, environmentally conscious, and economically viable.
Adequate afforestation is critical to ensure adequate production of oxygen needed to prevent global warming and ensure biodiversity. Deforestation (for conversion to pastures, or plantations), wildfires, and illegal harvesting of wood from protected areas destroys about 6.5 million hectares of natural forest every year, or about 17 football fields per minute. That is why it is important that only certified wood is used.
Furthermore, responsible wood production is environmentally friendly because it requires a relatively low amount of energy compared to making other regular building materials.
Wood is an attractive, durable, and versatile material. eKodoKi also consciously chooses responsible wood. There are many types of wood, and each is unique because of its wood grain and its natural colour shades – eKodoKi currently carry ebony, redwood, maple, whitewood, and zebrawood. Quality and attention to nature are important aspects for eKodoKi.
